Pigmy Sea Horse

Di kedalaman lebih dari lima belas meter sampai lima puluh meter, dibalik rimbunnya sea fans, tanpa diduga ada bentuk kehidupan lain yang tak pernah terlihat secara kasat mata. Dia adalah Pigmy Seahorse. Dengan ukuran milimiter, hampir susah dibedakan dengan lingkungan sekitarnya karena sifat kamuflasenya. Warna yang hampir menyerupai ranting ranting sea fans.

Konon mahluk ini ditemukan secara tidak sengaja, ketika sejumlah peneliti sedang membawa sea fans ke daratan, menemukan ada creature dibalik ranting ranting itu.
Pigmy Sea horse ( hippocampus bargibanti ) merupakan atraksi yang selalu dipertunjukan para dive guide. Tersebar mulai kawasan Papua Nuigini, Indonesia, Filipina sampai Australia utara. Dikatakan Sea horse karena memang berbentuk seperti kuda laut, dan sangat kecil sehingga disebut pigmy.

Hampir mustahi kita melihat dengan mata telanjang. Umumnya para photographer juga berjuang mati matian memotretnya. Belum jika arus agak kencang. Sehingga butuh bantuan penyelam lain atau dive guide, untuk mengindentifikasi atau memberi bantuan senter.
Saya memotretnya dengan bantuan lensa makro 60mm atau 105mm dengan tambahan diopter plus 2, untuk mempertegas bentuknya.

Pigmy Seahorse dan sea fans merupakan kesatuan simbiosis. Koral ini adalah rumah yang kaya dengan pangan yang dibutukan kuda laut pigmy. Berbagai macam warna dan bentuk dapat ditemukan sepanjang perairan Indonesia.
Sungguh kekayaan hayati bawah laut yang mencengangkan.
